Spring Break
Schools will be closed for spring break Monday, April 14th through Monday, April 21st. Staff and students will return to school on Tuesday, April 22nd.
MCAP Testing
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) is a statewide academic testing program in Maryland that assesses students' progress towards college and career readiness standards in English Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies/Government.
Trimester 3 Progress Report Distribution
Trimester progress reports will be sent home with students during the listed distribution window. Progress reports are also available through Campus Portal on Infinite Campus.

Middle School Social Studies Assessment
Middle school social studies testing, for 8th graders, focuses on assessing student knowledge of United States History from 1763-1890, as well as critical thinking skills like evaluating sources and constructing arguments, through the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) Social Studies 8 assessment.

Staff will participate in on-site and off-site professional development.
School Wide Meeting
School Wide Meeting is a semi-quarterly celebration of Trailblazer culture and community at SBCS. You can expect to see Crew flags, a display of our Habits of Scholarship, songs, dance, performances and plenty pictures & displays of student work.
Celebration of Learning
Celebration of Learning is a school-wide event to celebrate the work and accomplishments of our scholars while fully immersing parents and visitors in the learning process through interactive panels, bulletin boards and activities.
Park Week
A Trailblazer celebration of expeditionary learning through outdoor learning experiences in various parks across Maryland.
Last Day of School
Happy Summer! Today is the last day of school. We’ll see you in August!

Vision and Hearing Screenings
City Schools has partnered with the Health Department, Johns Hopkins University, Vision to Learn, and Warby Parker to provide no-cost vision screenings for all students in pre-k to grade 8 and glasses at no cost to students who need them through Vision for Baltimore.
Hearing screenings are provided free for all students.

Literacy Night
Literacy Night is an evening of literacy games and activities to encourage families to engage in literacy and learning together, strengthening their connection to reading and writing.

Community Budget Meeting
Community Budget meetings allow Principal Johnson to equitably share information about the proposed budget with the SBCS school community and clarify specific questions about budgetary priorities and initiatives at SBCS.

Student Led Conferences (SLCs)
School closed for Student Led Conferences.
Student-led conferences are an excellent way to empower students and give them a sense of ownership over their learning. These conferences allow students to reflect on their academic journey and present their progress, strengths, and areas for improvement in a meaningful way. By actively leading discussions with parents and teachers, students can develop essential skills like communication, self-awareness, and goal setting.
Schedule an SLC directly with your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

MISA Testing (grades 5-8)
The Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) is a science assessment administered to students in Maryland in grades 5, 8, and high school, designed to measure student progress toward scientific literacy and aligned with the Maryland Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
